The multi-talented poet/songwriter/performer Miranda Pender has created a new musical version of my poem A Leisure Centre is Also a Temple of Learning and is going to perform it on Friday 9th October at the Royston Folk Club. If you click the link above , you can read Miranda’s own thoughts on this almost impossible project and listen to her hugely attractive recording of the song.
I met Miranda for the first time when I was guest reading at the wonderful Ware Poets after the launch of Too Late for the Love Hotel. We met again at Jonathan Steffen‘s launch event for The Book of Love and Loss in Heffers Bookshop in Cambridge. And now I have been invited by the composer to join the audience in the Oak Room of the Old Bull Inn in Royston High Street while she gives her first ever public performance of her new piece.
Miranda’s CD Petrol Station Flowers, which you can read about and sample on her website is wonderfully quirky in subject matter and quick witted in style. The foot-tapping title track can be accessed by clicking the link above.
